One of the ways governments try to bring their (market) economies out of recession, to reduce unemployment, etc. is by lowering corporate taxes. The belief is that if you lower the penalties that corporations and businesses have to pay, they will have more money and be inclined to hire more employees. They'll also have incentive to give bonuses, which will make people spend more money and hopefully create and economic boom.
