The USA gained Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Philippines after winning which war in 1898?

The correct answer is the Spanish American war of 1898.

It was a war between the United States and Cuba on the one side and Spanish on the other side, and it was won by the US. It's reason was the will of Cuba to become independent  of Spain - so it was connected to the Cuban war of Independence.
