Collect like terms

X2-2x-3=0

Factorise

Values of -3x= -3x & +x or +3x & -x

So will go with -3x & +x

Substitute

X2-3x+x-3=0

X(x-3)+1(x-3)=0

(X+1)(x-3)=0

X+1=0

X= -1 or

X-3=0

X= +3

Therefore, X = -1 or +3

After you add 3 to both sides, The equation would be: -x2+2x+3. If you know the quadratic formula, then you know that the discriminant is b2-4ac. This would be 2^2 - 4(-1)(3), which equals 4-(-12). The discriminant would be 16
