How were race relations different in the 1960s than they are today?

Explanation: The 1960's was a decade of progress interracial marriage was allowed(probably not common but you could) and the Voting rights act removed the abuse of voter registration. However there were still large economic disparities. After years of segregation and discrimination many African Americans were in poverty. When no change was made by the government since most of the money was being spent on the war in Vietnam, there were mass protests throughout the country.
