Judy and Marie have 10[tex]\frac{1}{6}[/tex] fabrics altogether.

In Mathematics, Altogether means to add

Since Judy has 4 2/3 yards of fabric  and Marie has 5 1/2 yards of fabric ,

Altogether, the will have  4 2/3+  5 1/2

We add whole numbers to whole numbers and fractions to fractions

(4 +  5) + 2/3+ 1/2

=9 +  2/3+ 1/2

9 [tex]\frac{4+3}{6}[/tex]

9 7/6    (7/6=1 1/6)

9+1 1/6

=10  1/6
