To isolate x, multiply both sides by -2. Multiplying both sides by a negative number will flip the inequality sign.

[tex]-\frac{1}{2} \text{x} > 4\\\\\text{x} < -2*4\\\\\text{x} < -8\\\\[/tex]

The open hole means "exclude the endpoint".
