x= total pounds bagged

Multiply the number bagged by the number of pounds of each bag.

x= (5 * 1/4 lb) + (2 * 1/2 lb)
x= [(5*1)/4] + [(2*1)/2]
x= 5/4 + 1
convert fraction to mixed number
x= 1 1/4 + 1
x= 2 1/4 total pounds bagged
